YouthNasoci.me - Career guidance platform for high school students
Overview
SmartUp designed and launched Nasoci.me (Guide.me) for the City of Skopje, a digital career guidance platform helping secondary school students explore professions and make more informed decisions about their education and careers. SmartUp produced a series of educational videos featuring professionals from diverse sectors — from social entrepreneurship and filmmaking to sign language interpretation and DJing — sharing authentic accounts of their career journeys, daily work, and advice for young people.
SmartUp built the platform as a freely accessible resource that complements career guidance already offered by schools and educators, giving students exposure to careers that are often less visible or understood — drawing on SmartUp's experience building digital learning platforms for young people in North Macedonia.
The challenge
High school students had limited exposure to different professions and lacked reliable, practical information to support informed career choices.
Existing career guidance services were often insufficient, making it difficult for young people to learn about occupations beyond the most common career paths.
Students needed accessible and engaging career guidance resources that presented real experiences from professionals and helped them understand both the opportunities and challenges of different careers.
Schools and local stakeholders needed additional tools to complement existing career guidance activities and encourage young people to think critically about their future education and employment.
Activities and methods
1. Designed and launched the Nasoci.me digital platform as an online resource dedicated to career information and career exploration for secondary school students.
2. Produced and published a series of educational videos featuring professionals from a wide range of sectors who shared their career journeys, daily responsibilities, challenges, and advice for young people considering similar professions.
3. Developed career guidance content covering diverse topics, including the importance of choosing the right career path, career counselling opportunities in secondary schools, social entrepreneurship, management, DJing, human rights, filmmaking, sign language interpretation, and the intersection of art and technology.
4. Promoted informed career decision-making by providing students with authentic insights into professions that are often less visible or less understood, helping them explore educational and employment opportunities beyond traditional career choices.
5. Created a freely accessible online resource that can support career awareness and complements career guidance activities implemented by schools, educators, and youth organisations.
Impact and learning
Nasoci.me contributed to improving career awareness among high school students by making career information more accessible, relatable, and engaging through digital storytelling. Rather than relying solely on traditional career counselling, the project enabled students to hear directly from professionals about their educational pathways, everyday work, motivations, and challenges, helping them make more informed decisions about their own futures. By promoting a broader understanding of diverse professions—including emerging and less familiar careers—the initiative encouraged young people to explore opportunities aligned with their interests and abilities while strengthening the role of digital tools in career education and lifelong learning.
