From Corporate Responsibility to Healthier Living Environment
Overview
SmartUp delivered a series of 10 ISO:14001 and ISO:15001 workshops to selected private companies across North Macedonia, funded through a grant from the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning. The workshops focused on educating participants about the environmental impacts of waste, effective waste management, reducing non-renewable energy usage, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. The project targeted various sectors, including construction, textile, coffee processing, and wine production, providing tailored training to improve environmental management practices and foster sustainable development.
The challenge
Tailoring the workshops to meet the specific environmental management needs of different sectors, such as construction and wine production, while maintaining adherence to ISO standards, required a customized approach.
Educating companies on the importance of waste management, environmental preservation, and reducing reliance on non-renewable resources posed a challenge in aligning company operations with sustainable practices.
Ensuring that companies would not only learn about but also implement the sustainable practices covered in the workshops was critical for achieving long-term impact.
Activities and methods
The project conducted 10 workshops, each lasting 4 hours, where participants received hands-on training on waste reduction, emissions management, and environmental impact monitoring. Companies received customized training materials to guide sustainable practices.
Achieved a 95.2% success rate based on participant feedback, the workshops were highly rated for their quality, relevance, and practical applicability. Participants reported a substantial improvement in their understanding of environmental management and sustainable practices.
The project fostered a culture of corporate responsibility among the companies, encouraging ongoing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. Each company developed actionable plans to reduce waste, manage emissions, and comply with environmental regulations, setting a foundation for sustained environmental stewardship.
